And it was all Yellow..... (all you Coldplay fans should be humming along now)

This girl and I went to the same yellow spot as the student in the last post, but I tried to make it look like a new area. Did it work? There were so many leaves laying on the ground, that we needed to take advantage of that. I'm going to be sad when I run out of nice weather for pictures. I love doing outdoor session!

Howie's yard with a person!

This afternoon I got to photograph a girl that I've taken many pictures of over the years. I've done her pictures for dance, school, family photos and she was even a beautiful bridesmaid this summer in her dad's wedding that I was the photographer for. But today was a session just for her. And she was up for whatever I suggested. If you've been checking my recent posts, you will have seen my truck shots that I did in a local "antique" car lot. I've been wanting to try and incorporate a person into all of Howie's rusty treasures, and today I got my chance! We did a few pretty fall pictures first, but then it was on to the old vehicles for props. I think they turned out really unique!! Hope you like them.

I love the colors in this shot. I'm so glad her top was a strong deep shade of purple. It wouldn't have looked as sharp if she'd been in a pastel.

Thanks for your replies!

Thanks to everyone who replied and gave me feedback to the e-mail I send out late last night. I was hoping to find out if people were checking in on my blog, enough for me to continue doing it. I've been updating it quite frequently and was really hoping that I had some visitors stopping by. It turns out I do, so I will keep on updating it weekly. Thanks again for all your comments!

My little buddy

Well I got a chance to use my Mountain Ash for a second time this week! Yay. I love this tree, in case you've missed previous posts. And this is my little friend that comes to visit me every fall. His birthday is in October, so his mom is very faithful in bringing him for his annual photo session. This is the first time we've had warm enough weather to do it outside, so that was a nice change. He's such a happy dude. He was also very observant, noticing that I had a Star Choice reciever on my house, not Bell Expressview! Very cute. He had a good time playing in the trees and with all the leaves on the ground.

A Cowboy and a Cheerleader

This couple came down from Regina to get their photos taken on saturday afternoon. She's an incredibly talented dancer who comes to town weekly to coach our local dance club. She was also on the cheering squad for the Rider's the past few years! We had fun trying to manouver our way under barbed wire and around fresh cow patties, but that's the lengths you sometimes have to go to to get where the good shots are going to be!

Yet another grad student

Casey made fast friends with Sarah. Partly because of her sweet personality, and party because he found a jellybean in the back of her car!

Fall has arrived....and is almost over

God has blessed us with so many things, and one of my favorite of those things is fall. I absolutely love everything about this season. I love the coolness in the air, the crunchy sound the leaves make when you walk barefoot in the grass, and of course the most exquisite colors you can imagine. I did these photos on saturday afternoon and the little baby was in a great mood. We stuck him in a empty flower pot and he happily waited for us to take his picture. A very good sport! Also included is another Christmas card sample, as promised.

This is the last photo that I took of the baby, because he needed a break to work something out. It's a big job when you're such a little guy!

More Sisters

These girls and their mom are so much fun. This is the second time they've come for pictures of the three of them, so they were excited to play around outside this time. I've got a gorgeous tree in my backyard that only works for pictures about one week out of the year, then all the leaves get blown away. And this was the week! I was so happy that the weather cooperated.

I've included a sample Christmas card (4" x 8") so that people can see what great designs are available this season. I'll be posting more with other sessions. I've been trying to come up with some different stuff. I don't want everyone all handing eachother the same old boring cards! I design each one on an individual basis. I color coordinate them to the background, clothing, etc. and make it totally personal. I try not to make any two cards the same, so that you know you're getting something unique. If you've had pictures taken earlier in the year and want to get cards made, just let me know. They are on sale right now for $3.00 each and come with their own envelopes.

Sisters

Beautiful girls aren't they? They came down a few days ago to get some pictures done together and indivually, but they weren't able to convince their brother that getting photos done CAN be fun! Boys. As you may have noticed, there aren't many of them on this blog so far. Usually when they do come, it's because mom said they don't have a choice. But once in a while they surprise themselves and actually enjoy it once we get going. Don't be afraid guys!! It's not that bad.

SPPA Accepted Print

I'm so excited!!! I belong to the SPPA (sask. prof. photographers assn) and this week is our provincial convention (which I'm unfortunately not attending). I just got word from another photographer friend that this image I submitted was accepted into the Print Salon for 2007!! I don't actually really know what that means yet, but I guess it's good... What I do know is that it will be shown on the sppa.org site for the coming year, and you earn merit points for having a print hang. So that's cool, cause this is the first time I've entered in the Print Competition. So anyway, I was pretty pumped, so I thought I'd share!

This is a photo I took of Aiden, just after we bought him his electric guitar for his 6th birthday. He has just started lessons, and can now play Smoke on the Water! He's loving it, so I guess it was a good investment. This summer he really wanted to be a busker, and was disappointed when we were doing these photos, because a lady walked by us, and didn't give him any money. He figured she should have thrown him a quarter or two, since he was playing his music uptown on the sidewalk!

Old Dead Stuff

On Sunday afternoon, my 2 year old and I went for a bike ride to a local old antique sort of car lot. I don't know how else to describe it. I love the place. It's full of hundreds of old vehicles, chairs, gas cans, bed frames, and just about anything else you can imagine! I love old trucks, so that's what I migrated towards photographing. It's fun to go out and shoot inanimate objects once and a while. And I wanted some new artwork for my bathroom, so the big orange truck is going to be residing in there in a few weeks!

My last few sessions

Sometimes the studio just doesn't work. We only got one shot of this little guy inside, and then he just wanted to get going. So instead of fight him, we let him lead the way. He loves trains, so we thought the best place to take him would be the tracks. He was so much happier there, and we were able to get great smiles and a more natural feel to the whole session. Mom's often worry that their kids aren't going to do well with pictures. Finding them something fun to do, and not trying to make them sit in one position and smile, is most often when the best images emerge. And it's a lot more enjoyable for everyone when they're allowed to just be kids, not models.

For this grad student, we headed out just before sunset to do her images. I'm so happy with how they turned out. It's such a pretty time of day, but you have to work fast, cause that sun dissapears quickly once it starts going down!

This wedding was held on the island on Wascana Lake. I never even knew it existed, but it was really pretty. All of the guests took a ferry over, then after the ceremony, we took a little boat ride around the island. That's where I shot this first picture, with the couple and the ledge behind them. Very neat idea!

After we got back on land, the guest were waiting for the newly married couple. They lined the sidewalk and threw rose petals as the couple made their entrance.
